Duration: 3  hours : 9am or 2pm
Level: Easy
Minimum: 2 people
Your guide will welcome you with a cool, fresh coconut drink and a braided hat. Visit a local tribe and learn ‘la coutume’ (traditional welcoming ritual).

Visit a traditional Melanesian Hut & Customs. “La Coutume” or “Custom” means establishing a special and unique relationship with someone. It is customary when you arrive in a tribe to offer a gift to the chief or vice chief (a 1000 XPF banknote or a special local sarong called a ‘manou’). In exchange you will be warmly welcomed and invited to share a unique moment of hospitality in the tribe. Your guide will prepare in advance what is necessary for the customary ritual. Certain customs may forbid the entrance into taboo areas without the prior agreement of the chief. You will able to see the tribal way of life, their sculptures, their yam fields…

Extra: tasting of the Bougna – traditional Kanak dish.
