2 Trains at your services!
All Aboard! This decidedly unique option is an excellent choice for those who wish to see the highlights of Noumea, New Caledonia’s capital city, dubbed the Paris of the Pacific. The cosmopolitan boulevards and verdant parks are in full view through the open windows of the "Tchou Tchou Train", a motorized vehicle that takes you on a guided orientation of the city and surrounding area.
You will board the Yellow Tchou Tchou Train right at the passenger terminal and begin your day driving by the city center and drive up to Notre Dame du Pacifique lookout point for nice views of the city. Next, you’ll see the military barracks, built over one hundred years ago. Charming Faubourg Blanchot is one of Noumea’s oldest neighborhoods; its old colonial homes are enchanting.
The grand Promenade Pierre Vernier, lined with tall coconut palm trees, edges the waterfront and is home to the landmark Meridien hotel. It may be difficult to remember you are not in the south of France, but rather the South Pacific – c’est la bonne vie!
You will then make your ascent to the lookout at Ouen Toro, where a panoramic view of the blue lagoon and neighboring islands awaits you and your camera. Enjoy a soft drink and some french pastries while soaking in the natural beauty.
Next, it’s on to Anse Vata Beach, a true paradise for water sports enthusiasts, and Lemon Bay, a favorite getaway for visitors and locals alike. You will see the yacht club, Orphelinat Bay and the Southern Province Government House.
Finally, you will drive through the Place des Cocotiers – Noumea’s lively shopping center. Here, you may choose to debark Le Petit Train and peruse the many shops and boutiques. Your ship is a 10-minute walk away. Or, you may remain on the train and return to your ship.
